Quote: "They have you looking so hard for flaws that in the end that is all you look for." - Vincent
When Vincent first meets Irene, they grow fond of each other rather quickly. Irene, working for GATTACA though, is curious about Vincent. She at first is only looking at his DNA, which belongs to Jerome, to find out more about him. Vincent on the other hand, being Jerome, does not care about DNA or who you are supposed to be since he changed his DNA basically. So he is just interested with who she is as a person and still likes that image. Irene first looked at Vincent's DNA secretly trying to find who he is and therefore looking for flaws. She then gives him a hair off of her head to let him see what flaws she has. But he lets it go because as i said he doesn't care what her DNA says. Later when Irene finds out that Vincent is playing as Jerome she grows scared and so runs away because his DNA isn't what is correct by society even though he, himself accomplished everything including her interest in him. So Vincent, i believe, understands the true meaning of life while everyone else is worried about the DNA meeting expectations instead of what the actual person can do; an example of this is at the interview, where all it is, is taking a sample of blood and not actually interviewing the person. Later though, everything ends well with Irene finally excepting that everything Vincent did with Jerome's helix was actually the true potential of Vincent.
